  • Introduction of the general aims of the project by Serge Scory

  • Call from BELSPO to fund federal institutions, hence RBINS and RMCA
  • Strengthen the role of RBINS as DiSSCo ERIC NN
  • Develop Specialization tool
  • Develop PID

  • Link of the project’s activities with DiSSCo RI

Summary of DiSSCo EU for BE DiSSCo FED participants not involved in the EU level, Explanations on the Transition Phase of DiSSCo EU towards the ERIC statute, Risk of dissolution of DiSSCo iGA, in this case possibility to set up MoU for DiSSCo Belgium

  • Presentation of the Work Packages and Tasks of the project following the power point

  • WP1 – Serge Scory
  • WP2 – Patrick Semal
Discussion around the international crucial aspect of the specialization tool > to help establishing the synergies + strategic tool for DiSSCo to optimize the means of the full network. CETAF will also rely on the collected data. Collecting the data is critical.
The tool should be ready in June. Will get back to all participants with guidelines prepared by CETAF to help provide the data from their collections.
Request from PS to MT to get raw data spreadsheet from DiSSCo Flanders. MT will check if partners of DiSSCo Flanders agree to share the data.
Discussion around the Google forms used to fill in the tool (possible to update / replace?)
Discussion about the discovery platform's technology and the system's capacity to allow users to find/request/download data from the system.
Vocabulary + formats alignment needed with the Latimer Core
GBIF / TDWG workshop on formats and Latimer core.

  • WP3 – Patrick Semal
  • WP4 – Patrick Semal
RBINS / RMCA use DARWIN system > ULiège interested to use Darwin too
  • WP4 – Citizen science project RMCA – Didier VDS > successful projects
T4.4 > No Doedat training scheduled by Meise in this task
Discussion on importation of data from citizen science projects; Should such data be labelled “citizen science” in the collection?
SC offers his support for data quality improvement.
  • WP5 – Serge Scory
  • WP6 – Serge Scory
  • WP7 – Serge Scory
  • Build BE Dissco FED platform to use the Natural Heritage Website; Local website of GBIF could be a host too. There is no reason to develop a new platform, if possible, to reuse existing platforms.
Question on how BE DiSSCo FED will provide training: DiSSCo Flanders will use EMBRC platform top provide training. For digitalization, the material needs to be seen. It is possible to combine online courses for overview of the training and physical courses for specific training. CETAF also has a platform that can also be used to provide training. Possible to collaborate with DiSSCo Flanders for the training task.
Is it necessary to create a new platform for BE DiSSCo FED or just create a page and link from/to other existing initiatives?Create a prefill form for the training? CETAF uses training developed in synthesis and expanded in DPP. AC to send data files to PS.
Ad hoc training on specific topics? Or condense training in one week like “summer school”? Will depend on the funding.
How to make know DiSSCo to the community? Maybe start with a training course on DiSSCo to make it known. Will also be important for the Belgian community to have introduction trainings. Getting to know the data and the governance of DiSSCo, getting familiar with the architecture, interoperability between data formats, etc. Get inspired by the GBIF training (cleaning data, etc.).
Question on creative licenses: CC0 and CC-by usually; for genuine specimen want to use CCby ND, but it constitutes a problem for the EU. CC0 for metadata.
    • Budget – Serge Scory
