99. What are the user interfaces?

All user interfaces are web  interfaces with internet or intranet options.
With the intranet option, the access to the backend interface is limited to the institution site or using a VPN.

Backend

The backend system is available with 2 interfaces, and you need to use them in two different browsers to avoid cookies conflict:
Several levels of security are available depending from the user interface

The authenticated interface is available with the native DaRWIN one. It is used by several encoders.

https://darwin.naturalsciences.be

Security: https for all connections. User/Password at the DaRWIN level, possibility to add User/Password at the VPN if Intranet is activated.

2. The embedded interface with your website or in the naturalheritage.be portal with 2 clicks menu and integrated help (?):

https://www.naturalheritage.be/darwin/rbins

Security: https for all connections. User/Password at the DaRWIN level, possibility to add User/Password at the web interface level and User/Password at the VPN if Intranet is activated.

Public

The "anonymous" public interface can be:

1. The native DaRWIN one (old and not recommended)

Security: https for all connections.

2. The embedded interface in the institution website developed at the Africa Museum.

https://darwinweb.africamuseum.be/search_specimens

Security: https for all connections.

3. The embedded interface in the NaturalHeritage portal after the import in the ElasticSearch index.

This allows to make cross institutions searches and combine the information from different CMS:
https://www.naturalheritage.be/search/simple-search

This interface allows to ask the indexes with simple "human" questions like What ?, Who ?, When ?, Where ?, Why ?...

Security: https for all connections.
